Saab Key Programming
Saab cars built since 1994 use an immobilizer system based on keys that are coded. A new transponder is required in order to enable the addition of an additional key, and special programming. This is usually done by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
It can be costly. This is the reason why you should always have a spare key at hand.
Transponder key
The transponder key comes equipped with an electronic chip. It sends a signal to the car when it is inserted into ignition. The car will then check the signal to see whether it matches the one in the key. If the signals match, the car will unlock and start. This is a great method to protect your vehicle from theft.
Transponder keys are an increasingly popular feature for cars, but they are not as secure as traditional metal keys. While the metal part of a traditional key could be cut and copied, a transponder is protected by an electronic chip. The chip has a unique code which is programmed into a car's computer in order to identify it.
The car will recognize the Saab keyfob, and allow it to be turned on. The car will only recognize the key fob if it is equipped with an unmodified chip and has been programmed to match. The car will not start in the event that the key is not programmed to match.
It's important to make sure that you have an extra key for your Saab. This is especially true especially if you reside in a rural region where there are a lot of car thieves. The good thing is that you can find a new key for your Saab without having to go to a dealership and pay the expensive prices that they charge. You can get a replacement key made on the spot for less than half of what you would spend at an auto dealer.
Wired key
Saab cars are typically delivered with two keys. If you have only one, it is recommended to get an additional key as quickly as you can. This is because if the key is lost and the car needs a new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This could be expensive, especially if you are buying a second-hand car.

The next step is to wire the column and row wires to the microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and requires a significant amount of soldering. There's no standard way to do this, but it's important to plan out the route you'll take and solder the rows and columns. For this keyboard, there are 5 rows and 17 columns. This means there will be 22 microcontroller wires and pins that you need to connect.
After the rows and column are soldered together, it is time to connect the key switches. Solder a diode to each key switch pin. This will shield the pins from current, preventing them from being cut off. A diode permits current to only flow in one direction. It features a visual indicator with a black band that shows which way current will flow.
Sanabria says that some of the tools sold in auto parts stores, like the Autel MaxiIM IM608PRO and IM508 can assist customers shopping or DIY customers to program replacement keys and restore the immobilizer's data. The tools connect to the OBD port and automatically guide the user through the procedure, making it simpler than replacing the computer in the vehicle.
Jump-starting the battery
A majority of people keep a set in their trunk to jump-start a vehicle in the event of an emergency, but it might not be a good idea for vehicles that are newer. These cars have a variety of computers and digital devices that communicate with each other. A surge in voltage while the battery is connected to another one could damage these components, rendering your vehicle unable to drive.
Start the working vehicle and let it run for about two minutes before connecting the cables to the one that is disabled. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the battery that is good (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end to a clean unpainted metal surface underneath the hood of the affected vehicle. The engine block is an excellent choice. saab key fob repair The Keylab is not to be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could cause sparks, which could ignite the gasoline in the engine compartment.
Once the cables are connected, you should begin the car and let it run for approximately five minutes. Then, disconnect them in reverse. Be aware that the battery of your Saab 9-3 is recharged while you drive, so it may take some time for the battery to go down. You should invest in a second key fob, as soon as you can. The replacement of the one that works requires the installation and programming of a brand new computer chip.
Replacement case
Saab owners usually only have one car key, and if it is lost, they will be charged. It's costly to add the key and also requires replacing the CIM or TWICE in the case of older models. It is recommended to have a second key in case of theft or any other catastrophe the best solution is to purchase a second key as soon as you are able to. Even it's "new" it will not work.
The dealer will charge you top dollars if you only have one working key. We can reset and reprogram the computer's EEEPROM to be able to accept a new key without having to replace the entire system. That can save you a lot of money. It's also much less expensive than waiting until you lose your only key.
